His mother scolded him, saying "Maximilan, what is to become of you?" Maximilian took this chide very seriously and went to the church to pray. He saw the Blessed Virgin Mary appear to him and hold out two crowns.  One white and one red. She said the white crown was chastity and the red was martyrdom then asked which he wanted.  10 year old Maximilian exclaimed "I'll take both!" and then the vision disappeared.
