Immaculate Conception of Mary Chaplet |
|
The medal is simply a Miraculous Medal. These can be found here. The beads should be blue as the sash of Our Lady of Lourdes. |
While gathering wood along the River Gave on February 11, 1858, Bernadette Soubirous hears a noise like thunder and sees a beautiful woman dressed in white. Three days later, she returns to the Grotto with friends, sees the vision again and falls into a deep rapture. On a third visit on February 18, Our Lady asks her to return for fifteen consecutive days. Accompanied at first by her mother, Bernadette returns to fulfill Our Lady's request and is repeatedly transformed by her vision. Soon, many others gather at the site awaiting a sign. On February 25, Our Lady instructs Bernadette to wash but she finds no water. Digging at a spot pointed out by Our Lady, a trickle of water appears that soon turns into an abundant spring which continues to flow to this day. As the word of Our Lady's appearance spreads, many ask for additional proof from Bernadette. During the sixteenth appearance on March 25 (the Feast of the Annunciation), Our Lady reveals "I AM THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION"! Two other appearances take place after this date, but Bernadette forever maintains a veil of secrecy on these encounters. The appearance of Our Lady of Lourdes to this young shepherdess has led to the construction of a Basilica at the site, preservation of the Grotto and spring where Bernadette experienced her rapture and recognition by the Pope as a centre for healing. Since 1858, the Church lists fifty-one miraculous cures that have occurred at Lourdes. |
